I've been running my Arch system for over a decade now, and just today, I ran into this problem for the first time.
I've downloaded the source code for MakeMKV, entered the directory, typed
./configure
and waited forever, but the configure step never made it past "checking build system type."
While it's doing that cc and/or gcc take up 100% of a CPU thread each.
Trying to diagnose the problem, I've even tried running config.guess directly from the automake directory at
/usr/share/automake-1.16/config.guess
and it hangs also.
Working further down the chain, I've found that gcc hangs while compiling a hello world program!
My system is all -Syyu up to date, so what should I try next?
