I know I shouldn't have but I ran startx with root.
The "xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O" error is gone but It still says can't find devices.

That file does nothing of value and might be actively harmful if you don't actually have an intel device, what system is this? Remove that file in any case.

I got some progress! I installed the driver and the dependencies when I tried to log into my WM my screen went black for a second.

Possible cause:

# CONFIG_FB_SIS is not setYou might have to build your own kernel or at least that module.
I seem to recall a Torvalds rant on SiS, though.
Alternatively (and if you don't care about performance which you're not going to get from that GPU anyway) you could focus on booting "nomodeset" and using the VESA driver.
