[SOLVED]i3 "Error: status_command process exited unexpectedly (exit 1)

I'm trying out a tiling window manger for the first time really and I'm having problems with i3 right off that bat. As soon as I launched i3 I got an error in the bottom right corner that says "Error: status_command process exited unexpectedly (exit 1)". I have i3status installed so I'm not sure why I'm getting this error.

Turns out i actually wrote LANG=en_US-UTF.8 in my locale instead of LANG=en_US.UTF-8, once I fixed that and rebooted everything was fine.
