update kernel?

Let me apologize right off the bat if I'm beating a dead horse here or if I've missed the obvious, but after reading the wiki etc... I'm just more confused then when I started.

I'm trying to figure out the best way for a noob to upgrade the kernal.  What I mean here is a step by step guide of the commands.

I would be very grateful if someone could point me to the right direction.

Thank you.

Re: update kernel?

pacman -Syu

(updating the kernel without updating other packages could potentially lead to problems.)

Re: update kernel?

id like to add if you use lilo for boot loader to run lilo after pacman -Syu
dont be afraid you can always recover from it if you screw it up
ie boot from install disk to your system or a live cd then run chroot into your system to repair what needs to be done
if you dont understand the documentation reread a few times or ask lots of people here willing to help you learn

Yes -- kernel26 is simply a package. And pacman -Syu updates all packages.

If you want to you can custom compile or make a package with a custom kernel or whatever, but if you don't care (no need to care, really), you can just upgrade with everything else.
