I am trying to remap my XF86WLAN key to open a network manager, however whenever I click it, it toggles the wifi to either be on or off. I believe it to be using rfkill, as the key toggles soft block on rfkill.
I have tried remaping the key using my i3 config, and xmodmap. This runs the bound command in addition to soft blocking wifi. Does anyone know how I could remap this key, without it toggling the soft block?
I have been pretty diligent with looking up answers, and I haven't found anything that works.

It is possible that the XF86WLAN button blocks and unblocks independent of any keybindings.

I was hoping to see a WMI device, but that's not shown.
There are several utilities that try to make lenovo WMI settings adjustable.
[1] hasn't seen recent changes, [3] is from lenovo itself and appears to be a continuation of [2] .
Maybe you can use them to change the functionality of tha hardware button.

The relevant kernel module is thinkpad_acpi.
The kernel documentation hasn't been updated since 2013. It can be found here.
A ThinkWiki article of like vintage can be found here.
The module's sysfs interface is located at /sys/bus/platform/drivers/thinkpad_acpi; the procfs iteration at /proc/acpi/ibm.
There does not seem to be any way to enable or disable the WLAN key (/sys/bus/platform/drivers/thinkpad_acpi/thinkpad_acpi/hotkey_radio_sw is read only). There is some reference in the documentation of altering the hotkey map and in the ThinkWiki article to tweaking the DSDT.
