Firefox uses ugly font on some websites

Hello there,

I have been using Arch to my delight for some days now and I have noticed that on some select websites the font is off. I have used the snap version of firefox, which does not appear to suffer this issue. The flatpak firefox also has this issue. Below are some screenshots of the issue.

This is the pretty snap version

I suspect Arch is missing some fonts and using another one instead, while snap doesn't have this issue bc everything is prepackaged.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So you know the problem. What have you done to address it? What font packages have you installed? What font configurations have you made?

Well let me preface this by saying that I only have a basic understanding of how the cogs in Linux turn. As for what I have done to address it: well, that's why I'm here bc I have no clue which fonts are missing, how to find out which are missing and why tf those fonts are not included with an installation of Firefox. Why is it that Chromium (from arch repo) doesn't have this problem, yet Firefox does? That's all for this tiny rant.

As for steps to solve this: the links you sent me are some great articles about fonts and how they work, Thanks! But I don't seem to be able to find how this would lead to a solution?

The Chromium package depends on some fonts that the firefox package doesn't. But in either case, it's up to you to install the fonts you like. There is no single answer to this as it's subjective. In fact, if the two images you showed, the one you highlighted as problematic looks much better to me than the other one.

The two links I provided give you information of installing and configuring fonts so you can figure out what will suite your personal tastes. But if you've not yet done anything at all to install fonts you like, then start there: install a font or two! A list of good options to try are also provided in the already-linked-to font page:
