i3 terminator workspace closes itself when switching to another

Hey guys,

I have a problem with workspaces in i3. Whenever I have a terminal open in workspace 1, and switch to another, let's say firefox in workspace 2, the terminal closes itself. That is really annoying.
I am using Terminator.

My i3 config:

Pretty sure I am missing something here. Reinstalling Terminator didn't solve the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

This sounds like terminator closes when it loses the focus?
How do you start terminator, with what shell?
Does it close if you move the focus on the same workspace or when you just unmap (minimize, iconify) terminator?

Or does it crash ("man coredumpctl")?

Edit: what if you substitute terminator w/ xterm?

This sounds like terminator closes when it loses the focus?

That is correct.

How do you start terminator, with what shell?

bindsym $mod+Return exec i3-sensible-terminal

I am using zsh.

Does it close if you move the focus on the same workspace or when you just unmap (minimize, iconify) terminator?

I don't know how to do or test that.

Or does it crash ("man coredumpctl")?

No coredumps found.

Edit: what if you substitute terminator w/ xterm?

xterm stays open and doesn't close.

Terminator seems to have a "hide on lost focus" mode. Do not use it.

Nope, but thanks for the suggestion.

Terminator seems to have a "hide on lost focus" mode. Do not use it.

This really was checked in the preferences. I unchecked it, but the problem persists. I am using xterm as of now and the workspace doesn't disappear.
