Arch is not responsive on high hard drive use

Hello,

my arch + kde install works great most of the time, when doing high disk drive load operations it gets unresponsive. (when disk operation finishes it get responsive again)

common scenarios it happens:
doing system updates make my mouse cursor to freeze.
while updating dota2 also have freezes.
copying and cancelling 50GB files also freeze the system. (numlock key not responsive)

the hard drive is sata3 kingston ssd connected to sata3 motherboard port and pass all the hardware tests.
this is going on for months, if anyone has experienced this kind of behavior please advise.

Sonuds like a low ram issue.
When it happens, it would be useful to post the output of:
free -m

The RAM isn't necessarily full when the system moves to sync I/O to wipe the cache.

What "sata3 kingston ssd" model is that exactly? Sounds like a slow disk on a fast system, so scenario #3

Cursor freezing happens when system is bottlenecked on IO, even with RAM almost empty.

Hi guys,

I suspected a disk wear issues so I've cloned to a new ssd drive and tested with kdiskmark, same results slow and didn't finish.
installed windows and got good performance with crystaldiskmark.

I think that I forgot to mention a crucial detail: I'm running btrfs (first time using that partition) and I also experience slow files deletions, It may be btrfs maintenance issues like balance and scrub....
I'm updating arch once a week / 2 weeks

installed btrfsmaintenance from AUR and now checking it out. will update soon.

hooked up the cloned drive to sata2 interface... when connected to sata3 port everything works fine.  probably a faulty ssd. thanks for helping.
