[SOLVED] Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 - Speaker Issues ALC298

Hello all, I have a samsung galaxy book pro 360 and I cannot seem to get sound to come through my speakers. The headphone jack works fine no problems.

1. I have installed the latest sof-firmware from the official repo.
2. I have pavucontrol installed and alsa-ucm-conf.
3. Here is my lspci -kvv output:

00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller (rev 20)
        DeviceName: Onboard - Sound
Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device c1a6
        Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+
        Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 32, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 175
        IOMMU group: 12
        Region 0: Memory at 601d190000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
        Region 4: Memory at 601d000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: sof-audio-pci-intel-tgl
        Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel, snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl

4. I have tried adding this line to /etc/modprobe.d/dsp.conf:

options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1

5. I have tried the stable 5.13 kernel, now running mainline 5.14. Anything under 5.12 wont even boot my machine properly.

Can anyone give me some ideas? I recently saw this bug report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208555, however, I have the Realtek ALC298 card.

I have tried to unmute/mute in alsamixer and the gui pavucontrol to no avail.

Re: [SOLVED] Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 - Speaker Issues ALC298

What does get detected exactly?

aplay -lL
amixer -c0
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks

FWIW my googling around leads to: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207423 which has a patch to be tried in the last post

Thanks for the reply. I will give you some outputs. I noticed that is says the speaker is unknown. I will take a look at the patch thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 - Speaker Issues ALC298

I have the 13.3" i7 LTE version. and i think its the same sound card as in 369. ALC298.

I followed this guide to get sound working.
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/howto-set-u … book/37090

By the way is suspend / sleep working for you? for me the screen turns black and no resume.

Thanks for the information. I first tried following all of the steps and to no avail my speakers still were not working. So, I decided to try removing the conf file with the options listed in step 4 on the website you posted. Without said conf file, my speakers finally work! Perhaps it was due to the fact that the link suggests the user with a skylake processor, but my model has the tigerlake model. Anyways, the custom HDA verb script must've done the trick.

I haven't had any issues with suspend/sleep. I'm using the kde environment with tlp.

FWIW my googling around leads to: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207423 which has a patch to be tried in the last post

I applied the kernel patch and built a custom kernel, but after booting the kernel, the issue was not fixed. Thanks again for the help

This will be marked as solved. But may seem like a bug still in the kernel(?)
