Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

The error "Driver does not support authentication/association or connect commands" comes from wpa_supplicant trying to use the modern api to talk to the old driver. You'll have to change that:

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

with wpa_suplicant I get the following:

$ sudo wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
nl80211: Driver does not support authentication/association or connect commands
nl80211: deinit ifname=wlan0 disabled_11b_rates=0

Do any of you know of a wireless usb adapter that actually works out the box without having to do anything ? I have been trying to get TP-Link N150 TL-WN725N working since yesterday and this is just frustrating a this point. The worst is that is surprisingly difficult to find information about adapters that actually work for linux.

Oh, and I just found a modernized driver that might work, but there is no PKGBUILD: https://github.com/kimocoder/realtek_rtwifi

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

ran sudo wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -D wext -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
rfkill: Cannot get wiphy information
ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Operation not permitted
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
ctrl_iface exists and seems to be in use - cannot override it
Delete '/run/wpa_supplicant/wlan0' manually if it is not used anymore
Failed to initialize control interface '/run/wpa_supplicant'.
You may have another wpa_supplicant process already running or the file was
left by an unclean termination of wpa_supplicant in which case you will need
to manually remove this file before starting wpa_supplicant again.

ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Operation not permitted

Went into the config file a deleted ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant

Now I get:

Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
rfkill: Cannot get wiphy information
ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Operation not permitted
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

That was the first driver I tried, although I installed by directly cloning the repo and not from the AUR.

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

Went into the config file a deleted ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant

You had the previous error, likely, because NM was still running and running an instance of wpa_supplicant. You wanted to stop NM.
Ignore the ioctl messages: does wpa_supplicant w/ the wext driver and/or NM w/ mac randomization work (try either or, not both at the same time)

Stopped NM, made to sure to kill all running processes of wpa_suplicant, and ran sudo wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -D wext -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf again (with ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant line added again). This is the output:

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

Ok I saw in other post that wpa_cli should be run as root. I did the whole  wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -D wext... as root. And then wpa_cli where I get this:

$ wpa_cli
wpa_cli v2.9

At least it now connects to the interface now. Before it was stuck on Could not connect to wpa_supplicant: (nil) - re-trying

Re: Help with TP-Link USB N150 Adapter. Doesn't show up in iwctl devices

As root, I ran ip link set dev wlan0 up

now in wpa_cli scan gives OK. scan_results shows no networks sad

I don't know what to do at this point. The wifi router is literally less than 5 meters away, and I'm connected with my phone with no problems.

You could try the nl80211 driver progandy linked in #28

You might have to add your vendor/device id to the driver, though: (Output from lsusb has them)
https://github.com/kimocoder/realtek_rt … re.c#L6387

By the way, the driver by lwfinger will be in kernel 5.15 (source phoronix, lkml), so you could also try that without any additional packages once it is released or the linux-mainline v5.15-rc1 AUR package (there is a precompiled package by miffe as well mentioned in the comments).
