Waterfox freezing when started to open URL from some applications

Hi. For a while now, when Waterfox is set as the default browser and a URL is opened from almost any other application, the window opens, but then it immediately freezes and is unresponsive to any sort of input, so I have to force quit it, open it from the application menu, then open the URL from the other application. It doesn't freeze if Waterfox is already open. Why is this happening? I can't find any answers on the internet, so I'm convinced it has something to do with the configuration on my machine in particular. I should note that this does not happen when Firefox is set as the default browser instead. Also, for some reason, it doesn't happen if the URL is opened from Steam, URLs in Wine applications, or external links in VSCodium, but it does happen with Slack and Discord.

DE is XFCE, and kernel is 5.14.5-arch1-1 (although this has happened across several kernel updates with no improvement). Waterfox is also the latest version (G3.2.6), but the issue has happened for a very long time now across many versions.
I've also checked journalctl, but there is nothing out of the ordinary when Waterfox is started to open a URL from another application.
I watched the startup process in System Monitor, and I saw that xfce4-mime-helper starts Waterfox as a dependency, disconnects the Waterfox process from xfce4-mime-helper shortly after, then xfce4-mime-helper exits. However, it goes through the same process when the URL is opened from Steam, in which case it opens without problems, so I'm not sure if it's relevant to the problem.

I'm getting seriously fed up with this issue, so ANY help is much appreciated!
