I have an Asus P5B motherboard and could not install Arch. The only PATA controller on board is the JMicron controller, which unfortunately is not supported in kernels < 2.6.18. I was stuck until I read a forum post over on the Slackware forums. Here's the gist:
When you boot from the Arch install CD (I used the 0.7.2 CD), type in the following at the boot prompt:
arch all-generic-ide irqpoll
I don't know the technical reasons why this works, but my CD drive gets detected now perfectly!
These same options can be used with GRUB to enable support for the JMicron controller, at least until you get around to upgrading to the latest kernel release.
Hope that helps somebody.
Got the same mobo here ... could only get patched mm kernel to work every thing fine now
You got lm_sensors working?
Actually, I'm just getting 2.6.18 installed now. I haven't tried lm_sensors yet. It seems like support for the 965 chipset is pretty new, so I'm expecting a few problems.
Have got a patch/file for them if you need it ;-)
No 2.6.18 should work ok ....
