Hi everyone,
The years pass and we end up accumulating a lot of media files (pictures, videos, sounds).
Does it make sense to keep these files in their original format, or would it be wiser to convert them to something more modern ? Even if newer file formats are more efficient, I do not want to further compress these files, so I would need lossless conversions only (storage becomes more and more available as time passes so it makes little sense to use lossy compression for archiving..)
Thanks for your ideas !

I am more concerned about the long term support for all those "modern" codecs and formats such as Opus, WebP, WebM, AV1, VP8, VP9, HEIC, HEIF. Will they still be easily readable 10 or 20 years from now? Or will they be the new Flash Video, RealMedia or VIVO video: awkward file formats with few player options.
So I would stick to older, well established formats such as MP3, MP4, WAV, FLAC, JPG, BMP, MOV, etc. And not all the new stuff that gets hyped by Google (or Apple) now and may be unsupported and forgotten when the next hot Google-invented codec arrives.
