Boot hangs if USB device is attached

Hi there,

I've a very strange problem. I'm unable to boot my HP Spectre x360 laptop if my YubiKey is attached to it. I already tried reFind and GRUB bootloader. Somewhere on the internet I found a hint that legacy USB should be disabled in the BIOS, but I don't have such a setting.

Anyone else with this kind of problem?

EDIT: it's not only my YubiKey but any other USB device (e.g my USB-C/Thunderbolt dock)

Re: Boot hangs if USB device is attached

A common cause for this problem is that the system tries to boot from an attached usb device first.
Have a look on your boot order. You can find it in the Bios/EFI settings. Usually you would want your hard disk to be in the first place, so your system wont try to boot from a CD or a USB device if a system was found on the hard disk.

The setting you mentioned is sometimes called "legacy boot" or "BIOS Boot mode". Check that your system is booting in efi mode before disableing it.

unable to boot

"How" - do you still reach the bootloader?
Can you initiate a boot from there?
If so, remove the "quiet" parameter and raise the loglevel, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Genera … bug_output and see whether that reveals the stall.
