[SOLVED] lsusb unable to detect Mi 8 Lite phone at all, windows can

I have been googling for quite the while about my issue, and could not find any answer. Most topics closed with answering the actual issue was a simple problem with the usb cable being used, yet, my cable is working fine, and many other cables also fail to connect properly to my arch machine.

To explain it simply, windows can use mtp and do everything fine, but when i switch to arch, the phone isnt detected, only charges (cannot switch to media transfer mode either, phone simply believes it to be connected to a charger), and lsusb doesn't even seem to show that the phone has been connected.

This is the full output of lsusb with my phone connected through usb. (Unchanging, despite having the phone plugged in or not):

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0761 Microsoft Corp. LifeCam VX-2000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 12c9:1002
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0c45:8502 Microdia USB DEVICE
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Thank you for your time.

This is solved!

Thank you for the answer, but i have already tried the methods in the wiki, with failure. As lsusb does not even detect my phone as being plugged in,all mtp packages are unresponsive.

I borrowed my roomate's Motorola, and his cable. Same results. Windows can perfectly use MTP and charge, while arch refuses to even acknowledge the phone being plugged in when using lsusb

im no expert but try installing either "android-tools" or "android-udev", i have both installed but you may just need one of them.

Thank you, everyone who replied to this. I was able to solve this issue, in fact it had nothing to do with arch itself.

Apparently, my motherboard GA-970A is quite terrible working with linux. It's IOMMU messes with some usb devices, and is quite unreliable. Disabling it allowed me to use my phone with arch. If you find yourself in a similar situation with a motherboard that doesn't have proper support for linux, this post might just help you, as it was the fix for me.
