Modem Manager on Laptop

Hello, I am running Arch Linux on my laptop which has a sim card slot. Cellular connections work fine with modemmanager and networkmanager, but every time I close the laptop lid and reopen it, the modem is reset and the modem index number increases by one. How do I stop this behavior?
