My Lenovo X270 is connected to an external monitor through HDMI. Its own screen is removed.
Whenever I restart the computer, I can see nothing on the external monitor. Until the login manager shows up, which is the only thing I can see (in addition to the archlinux booting instructions printed before it).
But I can't see the usual BIOS/GRUB menus/options.
This does not happen after a shutdown. If the computer starts from being completely off, everything is normal, and the external monitor behaves exactly as if it was an internal one.

If you removed the laptop's own display, the graphics card probably does not know how to handle it.
On my Lenovo W520 in the BIOS setup I can chose which monitor will show the output: Built-in LCD, External monitor, or both.
If you can somehow manage to go into your BIOS setup and change it, you might be able to get all your output on the external monitor.
Just an idea - find another X270 or a similar one and then go into its BIOS menu. Press exactly the same keys on your laptop without the LCD. Theoretically you should be able to go into the BIOS and change the setting to output on both internal LCD and external monitor simultaneously.

I actually can see everything after turning on the computer from a shutdown. But not after a restart. (Read the last line of my post again)
I just checked my BIOS settings (Config > Display). They say:
Boot Display Device [HDMI]
Shared Display Priority [HDMI]
Total Graphics Memory [512MB]
Boot Time Extension [1 second]
