I'm trying to compile darktable.

I am supposed to have the file gtk-dev to do so but from what I've read arch doesn't have any dev versions. Would someone tell me how to get around this issue?

thank you so much! Would you be so good as to direct me to instructions for using githubs  version? I've only ever compiled with linux from scratch.

Re: I'm trying to compile darktable.

I suspect bmike1 meant how to use a PKGBUILD.  If this is the case, please see the AUR page on the wiki.  If you are going to use Arch Linux you should (almost) never build from scratch and install (ever "sudo make install") - you should (pretty much) always use a PKGBUILD.  And for most software that one might be interested in, a PKGBUILD will already exist in the AUR - and for any packages that are in the repos, you can get the PKGBUILD from the ABS.

But bmike1, why are you compiling this yourself?  What's your end goal?  Are you applying some patch?
