I've been trying to find a acceptable solution to be able to have the ability to lock my screen (mostly around coworkers) but to keep the music rolling (currently using MPD, but VLC at times at well). I'd prefer to stay away from system wide instances, I've found them to be fragile and difficult to actually make work. X11/XFCE. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Needs more info. What screen locker? No issues with xfce4-screensaver here, which should be the default anyway. What kind of audio setup? Pipewire, pulseaudio, or pure alsa?

Pipewire and just using the default screen lock. Well, I'll just consider this solved, I should just use the screensaver and use a launcher to lock the screen with xfce4-screensaver. Easier than anything else, thanks!
