Hello. Recently, I tried to use wayland, but faced with some extremely stupid problem - resolution of my monitor was not higher than 1024x768. After reading several forums and wiki's I tried to change my EDID. But, for some reason, it didn't worked at all. I generated my EDID through this generator. I created a folder in /lib/firmware/edid and inserted this file into edid folder. After that, I changed the kernel boot parameters and rebooted my PC. Weird, but it's not working for whatever reason. I also tried to make some manipulations in mkinitcpio.conf file (changed FILES setting to '/usr/lib/firmware/edid/1440x900.bin'), inserted drm.edid_firmware=edid/1440x900.bin into kernel boot parameters. Using NVIDIA videocard (recent drivers should support both libraries that needed to proper wayland work). Nvidia KMS is also turned on. And yeah, I altered edid_firmware to proper work with KMS. Even without Nvidia KMS it doesn't work. Also, I can't use debugfs instead, because for whatever reason it gives me this thing:
cat: write error: Invalid argument errorWhat I can do with it?
Here's some output:

The coming latter from
cat 1440x900.bin > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/DVI-I-0/edid_override?
The EDID could be invalid.
Have you btw. tried to pass the mode to the video parameter?

Yeah, actually.
video=DVI-I-1:1440x900@65MRFor whatever reason it doesn't work. And yeah, using adapted DVI to VGA. I don't sure that the problem in it, because in xorg.conf with some magic (configuring horizsync and vertrefresh) it works pretty good. Even if EDID is invalid, how i could fix it?

"Doesn't" work also on the console or only in the wayland compositor (being btw. which one?)

Everywhere. It just, for some reason, cannot apply this binary file
Offline
Used other (this) program to generate EDID - still the same error as before
upd. at least, "cat" started to work and no longer throwing me "cat: write error: Invalid argument error"

Does writing the new edid into the debugfs get you the desired resolution or is only the error gone?
Sure you successfully moved it into the initramfs then (different filename)?

Unfortunately no. I can't figure out why it doesn't want to work at all. I am doing everything right, it simply does not want to use it for some reason that I do not understand

Try to address the output directly

It still does not work, I tried DVI-I-1 as well - still, for some reason, does not want to display the screen extension for me. It does not even give any error, except that it cannot find the EDID of my monitor, which you already saw

So yeah, I didn't find the actual reason how to fix it, lol

What's the actual monitor vendor/model/version?
Can you please post an xorg log and the output of "xrandr --verbose" w/ the desired resolution in use?

And yeah, using adapted DVI to VGA
I missed that edit(?) - what is the adapter? (The monitor is irrelevant now)
Do you have a VGA port somewhere so you could dump the EDID from the monitor?

DVI-I to VGA adapter. Most likely, this is the problem, but I can't replace it in any way (delivery of another adapter will take a month from aliexpress)

Probably. There is a built-in videocard in the motherboard. Everything is fine with the screen resolution if I use this card (it's obvious that I can't use this videocard, because of its slowness). How can I dump the EDID image from the monitor, though? Even if I will extract this, what I'll need to do then? Or just simply try to use this image in the boot arguments?

DVI-I to VGA adapter.
I meant more like "the brand" (vendor/model)

https://archlinux.org/packages/communit … read-edid/
In X11 your're running at
1440x900 (0x2e8) 96.500MHz +HSync -VSync *current
h: width 1440 start 1488 end 1520 total 1600 skew 0 clock 60.31KHz
v: height 900 start 903 end 907 total 928 clock 64.99HzWhich is kinda between the regular and the reduced blanking modeline - what modeline(s) did you use to generate the EDID?

I don't actually know (or remember?), bought this thing over 3-4 years ago. I suppose, it doesn't support EDID extracting?
Which is kinda between the regular and the reduced blanking modeline - what modeline(s) did you use to generate the EDID?
??? If we're talking about the programs that used to create the EDID, I used this (to create 1440x900 resolution).
If we're talking about the actual resolution - created it by UMC (umc 1440 900 65 --rbt), because default "cvt" command can't create reduced blanking normally.
Offline
It allows you to generate an EDID from a (some) modelines, incl. actually the Xorg log (I guess from the script)
Of course cvt can produce reduced blanking modelines, cvt12 even v1.2 of them - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cvt12-git/
And the regular reduced blanking modeline (w/ a lower pixelclock than the one you're using) even shows up in the xrandr output:
1400x900 (0x28e) 86.500MHz +HSync -VSync
h: width 1400 start 1448 end 1480 total 1560 skew 0 clock 55.45KHz
v: height 900 start 903 end 913 total 926 clock 59.88HzSo, what was the exact modeline(s) you provided to the edid generator?
Also: did you create it w/ "umc 1440 900 65 --rbt" ie. for a 65Hz frequency??

This, I guess?

Yes, do not pay attention (60Hz seems too "ragged" for me, because of rhythm games)

You cannot just willy nilly create bogus edids w/ invalid frequencies and eg. the v1.0 reduced blanking is only specified for multiples of 60Hz to begin with…

It turns out that the whole problem is in the wrong image?

Possibly, but I'd certainaly try an EDID w/ sane modelines first (or ideally the actual one from the monitor)

It still doesn't work. Even if I try to use an images with an integrated video card, it will not apply it. It is very strange
