[Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

hello

when i run chrome it never starts, the process freezes and i have to kill it. if i run it again, chrome starts but warns me that it was closed incorrectly and asks me if i want to restore tabs, then i can use chrome normally but if i close chrome i have to repeat the process.

i have noticed that this problem only happens if i am logged into my google account. if i log out it works perfectly, which led me to think that it was a bug in chrome, but the weird thing is that it only happens in gnome, i have tried in openbox and kde and chrome runs and works without problems.

If I launch chrome from a terminal it doesn't throw any error different from the rest of the desktops and in gnome there are no errors different from when the process freezes or when it starts normally.
the terminal throws this when the chrome process is frozen

[3048:3048:1029/224251.739429:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(457)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is egl, ANGLE is

and this when started correctly

in journal -b there is no error except one related to pipewire and bluetooth.

Re: [Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

gnome/wayland+xawayland issue?
Does it happen on gnome on xorg?
Is there an xwayland process when chrome is running/failing?
Does running "glxinfo & chrome" work (is it btw. chrome or chromium?)

Re: [Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

hello
yes, it's chrome, chromium works fine, as I said this issue only happens when I'm logged in my google account, I guess chromium won't have this issue.

it happens in gnome xorg and wayland
when i run chrome, , after having to kill the process, it works perfectly, i have hardware acceleration and hardware video decode.

when i get home i will try to run glxinfo & chrome

Re: [Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

I thought because of "in gnome", but if the display server is irrelevant, trying to prime xwayland w/ glxinfo rather won't help.

Fwwi, you can log into your google account w/ chromium as well, so you could actually cross-check that.

Re: [Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

I mean from the chrome options, so that it synchronizes your bookmarks, passwords, etc.

chromiun on linux doesn't let me do this, I can put a username I think I remember.

However, in chrome, when I log in to my account, after everything is synchronized, I have tried to unlog in and it doesn't freeze, it starts normally, but I lose the synchronization.

let's see if i can configure obs and record a small video, because i don't see any error, neither the pc crashes nor i have lag, the cpu is almost at 0% and idle and the hard disk is also without activity, the process is completely frozen.

I was testing kde and this did not happen, it worked perfectly.

I have also tried to install chrome from the chrome page, but I think aur basically does this, now I'm trying the beta of chrome but it still happens.

when I was in kde, I thought it was a good idea to delete all the gnome settings and set it all up again and it still happens.

and lastly, thinking that it could be a gnome-shell bug I have upgraded, since aur, to gnome 41 and still, it keeps happening exactly the same.

xd I don't know what to do, but I don't read that other people have the same thing happening, so I must have something wrong with the configuration.

EDIT ---------

I have recorded a small video, if you have limited internet just ask me to compress it and I compress it without any problem, it weighs about 300 mb.

I apologize because I had to record it with the smartphone, I could not make it work obs

Re: [Solved] chrome won't start in gnome

the cause of the problem is gnome-keyring

I don't have it installed and chrome crashes, this must be a problem either with chrome or gnome keyring as it is marked as an optional dependency.

I have used this launch command

--password-store=basic

and it no longer crashes, although I don't really know what that command implies, I have to find out if it affects synchronization or it is better to install gnome-keyring.
