[SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

HI Guys..

I have a Canon Pixma MG25505 printer that is connected to my computer via usb. I installed the "cnrdrvcups-lb" canon package for cups, but my printer isn't listed in the add printer setup. I tried setting the printer up as generic, but it does not show up under printers. I have tried accessing cups from both http://localhost:631/ & http://127.0.0.1:631/ but they both yield the same results.

lsusb  Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04a9:176d Canon, Inc. PIXMA MG2500 Series ....

groups  sys cups autologin users lp wheel ....

lpinfo -v  direct usb://Canon/MG2500%20series?serial=7D2A1E&interface=1 ....

Could someone please help me get my printer working. Many thanks..

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

Ok so I installed the first two & they didn't work. I then tried the third one & that didn't work either.

My "admin page" is still blank under printers & my printer is no longer listed under add printers....

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

Did you "sudo systemctl restart cups" after installing the cnij packages?

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

Yea I done that after installing. I just uninstalled the third one & installed the first two again. My printer is now showing again under add printers.

I got through the "add printer" setup & everything appears fine, but at the end my printer doesn't show up under printers....

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

I'm assuming that the printer is now found, but stuck in idle or something, because.. If I open libre-office I can select the printer when trying to print, but nothing ever gets printed.
I've restarted cups, even rebooted & the printer is still not listed under printers in the cups admin page.

lpinfo -v now no longer lists the printer either....

lpstat -t

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

dmesg

?
There're issues w/ the usb stack in recent kernels, try the LTS kernel.

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to get printer working....

Yeah, try the LTS kernel first. If that doesn't help, get rid of power management tools (TLP etc.) and try to disable usb autosuspend, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_ … utosuspend ("usbcore.autosuspend=-1", but userspace power maanger will alter that at runtime) and ultimately take a close look at the cable and plugs…
