My system detects my laptop's built in microphone but does not detect the headset microphone!
The built-in microphone is too noisy and I need to use the headset mic.
Other problems I have faced recently:
-Sound randomly stops working altogether (Very rare). Even after multiple restarts. Then I have to reinstall pipewire/pulseaudio.
-The day before yesterday my system stopped outputting any audio to HDMI.
I currently am using:
-Pipewire v0.3.39
-Realtek ALC255
-3.5 mm headset port
-Some random Sony Headset (worked perfectly fine on Windows)
P.S. : I am a newbie and I still don't understand how linux sound servers work so I have no idea if those other issues help.

Mhm nothing really obvious try /etc/modprobe.d/headsetMic.conf

The file headsetMic.conf did not exist, so I created one with the given content. But unfortunately, it did not work.
I think the problem might be that my headset is recognised as headphones i.e, it might be only recognised as an output instead on simultaneous input/output!
Although I'm not sure.

Simultaneous in- out jacks are always hairy and a bit of a trial and error. Try changing the headset-mic model definition to dell-headset-multi or try some others from the list: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … xxx-models another thing to test is adding the add-hp-mic hint to the codec definition https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … nt-strings see the section above that for how to apply/configure a HDA hint.

I sat whole day on my lappy try to figure out the correct combination and none of them worked. I don't think that pipewire is even reading that file.

Pipewire doesn't matter, it's ALSA that's not giving you access to the jack. Fix ALSA and all layers above work.
