hello all
I have this very annoying thing going on, every time I add a software to my arch, it will be added to the list of "open with", very often as the first option
example, recently I added pinta, now every file I click on (kde, dolphin) it will try to open it with pinta
this is very annoying as I spent some time changing it all to have my favourite software for each type of file
I installed gwenview, now everything try to open with this software, epub, pdf, text files .....
any idea why ?

Which file manager?
In Nautilus/Gnome Files, which I am using, the preferred application for a file type does not change on its own when you install new software. And I think the "Open with" dialog in Nautilus is sorted with your last choice first, so no automatic changes there either.

You need to configure the real defaults you actually want locally for your user once, otherwise each time an application that can accept a certain mime type will be appended by the default system wide cache updates that happen. Once you explicitly set something so that it is added to the relevant files in your home dir that should stick and trump a system wide setting.
