sound suddenly stopped working

i didnt realize at first but my sound just suddenly stopped working. ran speaker test and it gave me this error:

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1035:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy

Device or resource busy means something is already using your device. Post

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
#With pulse/pipewire
pactl list cards
pactl list sinks
pactl list sink-inputs

ok so I closed firefox and I could run the test and heard nothing.

That doesn't really say anything, are you running on the correct device? What's your output for

aplay -lL

from alsa-utils.
