GDM not starting session and all-around weird behaviour

When i booted my laptop up this morning, i encountered some very weird behavior in Gnome Desktop manager.
I select my account, type my password and it auths, and then nothing. I'm booted back to the account selection screen.
This error persists, even when retrying to login.

However if i press the session selection button, and select the same session(or a different one), gdm successfully launches the session as normal.

I have tried reinstalling i3 and gdm, and i can't really seem to find a proper reason. It also seems like a weird "fix" which shouldn't in general change anything.

Could be the same bug as https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2002581? Needing to explicitly select the already-selected option in order for it to be selected and load properly.

In their case it just defaults to another session, but if you have no other session, it makes sense that it may just silently fail and boot you back to login.

I haven't really looked through your log, that being said. But it would be interesting to get logs from the other person's thread and compare.

Seems to be the same bug. I had the exact same problem, and applying the "fix" from the other topic fixed it for me.
