lightdm sessions

((I'm very new to linux, and spent the entire day reading the wiki / forum posts before posting this - my first ever forum question. I apologise if it's a stupid question.))

I use lightdm  and was hoping to have two separate entries: XFCE/XFWM4 and XFCE/I3.

I created seperate files in /usr/share/xsessions, but when I change the window manager in settings->session&startup for one, it also changes it for the other. As per the first sentence, I'm trying to use seperate WM's for seperate sessions, but the .desktop file doesn't seem to be the place to do that. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much.

Because you're changing your users xfce configuration, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xfce#U … ow_manager in particular
You could wrap the session of the .desktop file into a script (startxfce4_i3, startxfce4_xfwm4) that first changes the WM for the session and then runs startxfce4
