Banshee package sorely out-of-date

I'm not sure where to go with this, but the Banshee package in the Extra repository has become sorely out-of-date.  The current repo package is 0.10.10, while the current version available is 0.11.0 (and the latest from the 0.10 series was 0.10.12).

The package has already been flagged as out-of-date, but it's been quite some time and I don't think it's gotten any attention.

Does anybody have some info on my favorite music program?

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

I'm running 10.12 here ....

Not sure why package is out of date maybe its a deps thing ... :?

[more to the point no one here likes mono lol]

Of course to get lastest & greatest run abs ... & rebuild it

may do that myself  wink

Ok .. so I get

Cannot find required GStreamer-0.10 plugin 'gnomevfssink'

Will have to hunt around ....

Yep banshee's ./configure checks gst-inspect-0.10 to see if gnomevfssink is installed. It's not seeing it for some reason even though it is installed and even though gst-inspect-0.10 returns

gnomevfs: gnomevfssink: GnomeVFS Sink

May perhaps someone smarter than me can figure it out from there....

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

gst-inspect doesn't work with fakeroot because gnomevfs wants to write a .gnome directory to /root, which doesn't work when you're fake wink

just enter this in PKGBUILD:

LD_PRELOAD="" ./configure --prefix=...

The LD_PRELOAD="" will remove fakeroot as preload library for the configure target with that line.

Other option is to build as root, but I don't like that.

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

I have found with 0.11 that ipod sync does not work ... maybe other deps need rebuilding too not sure   :?

dropped to 0.10 everything works....

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

I tried building both 0.11.0 and 0.10.12 from a modified 0.10.10 pkgbuild (I just updated the version numbers and md5sum), and both segfaulted when I tried to open the preferences pane.

EDIT:  the segfault occurs with 0.10.10 as well.  I guess I've got some troubleshooting to do...

The last error message was a complaint about a missing xing mp3 engine... which is probably also related to my inability to rip CDs.

Has anyone else experienced these problems?

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

Well for some reason I fixed the preferences crashing error by installing banshee-official-plugins-0.11.0.
It worked for me ymmv.

I don't own an ipod so I can't say if it affects that at all.

Re: Banshee package sorely out-of-date

After re-syncing Banshee (I tried BMPx for a while), we seem to be alright again.

I also see that 0.11.0 is in testing, and will come around along with the Gnome 2.16 stuff.

Now I must find out how to make MTP work...
