I have old Dell csx :
P III 500MHz
128 Ram
NeoMagic 4Ram
and xorg7.1 with vesa drivers.
Is that enought to run starcraft with wine? On Athlon 1,3GHz 512Ram, Radeon9200 there's no problem with it.

Do you have direct rendering? That'll probably be your only problem.

No, I don't but it is possible to habe DR with that old grafic ?

4M card is too low for Starcraft. You need at least a 16M card, iirc. And using wine for gaming without direct rendering is like asking your CPU to be burned alived.

Really? I swear I used to play it on an ATI 3D Rage Pro, which was 4MB.

What the hell?
I played Starcraft -perfectly- on a 200mghz with NO 3d-card.
Everything was rendered from CPU..
(Note: this was on win98, but i'm sure it'll work on Wine then too)

No idea what b.net is, but i CAN'T run this game at the moment.

Husio, the problem is you don't have direct rendering, something which wine wants to play the game. I'm going to assume that NeoMagic didn't make the chip, just the card, so run "lspci | grep -i vga" and post the output, this will tell us what actual chip you have and if there is a way to get direct rendering up and running for you.
ezzetabi: b.net (thats battle.net, the multiplayer service that starcraft uses for anyone that doesn't know) worked fine last I tried. Not tried for a while though.

Well, I'm not sure about the graphics card, 4 MB is really weak, but on the other hand Starcraft is from 1998 and runs in 640x480x8, so it might work.
The other system specs are fine. 3 years ago, I still had a Pentium III 450 with 128 MB RAM and a GeForce 2 MX, and Starcraft ran fine with Wine or Cedega. No problems/speed issues except on big maps with map limit reached (2000(?) units/buildings on the map). Then it got a bit slow (as with lag), but still playable.

The game is really old, and I have played it on my PI 100, probably 16 or 32 ram, something like this...
I know that wine whants DR but what for? It's old 2D game.

Because of how wine + directx works.
There is an xorg driver called "neomagic", use that instead of vesa and set up DRI in the usual way.

As with all things wine, it is very version dependant. I remember for a while starcraft worked, then stopped working for ages, then sprang back into life, so it's a bit hit and miss really..
