Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

Hello, I have a problem with 2 gamepads original PlayStation.

I connect the joysticks with a "Dual Port with one USB".
But in the last years, I can't play in multiplayers: join gamepad 1 and gamepad 2; So if I read /dev/inpunt/, I have only /dev/inpunt/js0 and not another /dev/inpunt/js1 for player two.

In Windows it's all Ok. What i check for to play with two joysticks?

Re: Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

What’s the output of the following, after the game controllers are connected?

ls /dev/input/by-path/

Sometimes I seem a bit harsh — don’t get offended too easily!

"Dual Port with one USB"

Brand and model of that device ?

Please post the output of lsusb -tv with that plugged in .

Re: Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

Looks like you didn't add the -v parameter, try again with lsusb --tree --verbose

Nope, you need to combine both parameters in one command.

Here's how it looks on my system (run as normal user):

That output does help enough to ask targeted questions .

No, they are DualShock (with Analog)

How many axes & buttons does windows show for each gamepad ?

Screenshot -> Gamepad Tester in Windows (you see 2 controllers)

Screenshot -> Gamepad in Windows Settings.

Screenshot -> Gamepad Tester in Linux

In Linux I have only js0 for player 1; no js1 for player 2. Strange!

Re: Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

For clarity , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_Analog_Controller or the successor for the PS2 [1] ?

It's getting clear now that linux only sees one joystick while windows sees 2 .
Given sony controllers use  a proprietary connector I expect the adaptor used is not so generic as it may look and requires a driver / kernel module.

I was hoping lsusb --tree --verbose would show the adaptor in a readable listing so we could look for details on it.

Please post full output of lsusb --verbose ran as user .
It will show way to much info , but extracting the details needed should be possible, just harder.

Re: Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

Unfortunately there's no sign of the adapter device at all in that output.

There are several other devices connected through bus 6, have you tried it in other usb ports ?

Edit :
Do linux application respond to both gamepads or to just one of them ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

The left part of joypad 2 (arrows directionaries), respond like comand of joypad 1.

Re: Why join Joystick 1 and Joystick 2?

I'm running out of ideas, hopefully other people can help out .

I do think you should change the title (edit first post) , maybe to something like "PS1 DualShock gamepad not functioning"
