[SOLVED]asus-wmi module with recent power-profiles-daemon not working

I'm currently using this asus-wmi module to be able to control screenpad brightness on my duo-screen laptop. I have the Asus RoG  GX551QS.

The author has not upstreamed this module and so I am missing out on the newest power-profiles-daemon updates. I do not have an option for "Performance Mode".

After I uninstall asus-wmi-screenpad and restart, then I have the ability to turn on "Performance Mode" but I lose out on the ability to change the screenpad brightness.

i tried to build my own kernel using this patch

with this kernel: https://gitlab.com/dragonn/linux-g14/

but I had incompatibility issues trying to install the new build.

I'm not sure who to contact to try to request a fix for my situation. So I'm just putting out a feeler in the forum to hopefully get some recommendations on who I can contact to request a patch.
