Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

Hi there,

I ran into a problem as i am going to do a presentation in a few days (may be 5), but i ran into a problem as impress is not detecting any secondary display.

I know we can mirror our screen by using

xrandr --output HDMI-1-0 --mode 1920x1080

But if i use this i cannot see my notes in my presentation files. So, I want my presentation projected by the projector, but i want to see presentator console in impress on my laptop.

Hope i made my question clear.

Thanks for helping me out in advance.

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

I just want to copy the my laptop screen but not while doing presentation.

Then change the screen layout when doing a presentation?

If the display server copies/mirrors the output you cannot display different things on it, it's the same framebuffer posted to different outputs - that won't work on windows either.
At best powernap… point secretly alters the windows screen layout for you. No idea whether impress abstracts such feature, but it's not gonna work the way you seem to imagine it to do.

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

Work on Plasma and Windows though.

I use the command

xrandr --output HDMI-1-0 --auto --right-of eDP-1

on plasma. Then i open impress and use slideshow option. Then on the next display(external monitor) impress automatically get launch.

On laptop screen impress is opened in presenter view whereas on external monitor, it use presentation view.
This also happen in Windows.

But i don't know why its not working on DWM.

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

Sorry, I didn't read your edit (which is completely different from your original post #4)

So it's about DWM only and more importantly, where it places windows.
Check "xrandr -q" about the primary output on either DE - idk enough about either impress nor dwm to say where the decision where to put the windows falls apart (ftr: how *does* dwm behave?)

My best guess is still to

seth wrote:

because it's conceivable that this impacts impress' selection.

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

And is that the same on plasma? And does it matter (ie. does impress select the projection along the display order)?

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

"xrandr --output … --primary", but since it's the same on plasma, it's likely not relevant.

Re: Secondary Display not detected by Impress (DWM)

I can confirm this problem. Thought I had made a configuration mistake, but looks like this really doesn't work with dwm…

Same problem here, I was planning using it to keep an eye on my notes.
