Ok, so I got another update.
With the new kernel release, I thought I'd give ti another go, but the issue persisted. So, I decided to downgrade the kernel and the nvidia drivers again. Sadly, the problems still are here, despite the kernel being downgraded.
However, during the installation of the kernel, I noticed some error messages:
I don't think the missing firmware is the problem here, but something isn't built properly.
I'm an idiot, nevermind. New kernel installation obviously wasn't in effect at first reboot attempt.
