Xfce4 session is broken under Xrdp

Hi. How to start Xfce4 properly from xorgxrdp (with polkit, dbus, and xauth working)? I'm trying to guess the right command to put to my ~/.xinitrc. I have LightDM installed, but when I login with an RDP client it just starts 3 xterm windows. From xterm I tried: startxfce4, xfce4-session, and "dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session xfce4-session"; and with all of them the Xfce session is disfunctional:

# another physical session exists
[il@reallin ~]$ sudo gedit
Authorization protocol not supported by server

(gedit:40427): Gtk-WARNING **: 12:36:18.926: cannot open display: :10.0
# no other physical session exists
[il@reallin ~]$ sudo gedit
Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

(gedit:3205): Gtk-WARNING **: 11:49:10.422: cannot open display: :11.0

[il@reallin ~]$ sudo systemctl status libvirtd
Nov 28 11:50:48 reallin.basin libvirtd[3260]: authentication unavailable: no polkit agent available to authenticate action 'org.libvirt.unix.manage'

My problem is similar to Authentication agent on XRDP, but that topic was never solved. I also don't have $XDG_SESSION_ID and other XDG_ variables and I also tried the "-devel-git" versions of the packages.

I don't have any experience with Xrdp but you should follow the xinitrc advice in the ArchWiki to ensure the various scripts under /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/ are started correctly — 50-systemd-user.sh may be particularly relevant here.

The ArchWiki has a page devoted to Xrdp, have you checked that?

Don't do that.

yes

Ok, maybe not gedit. But if the GUI apps work via sudo in console sessions they should work in xrdp sessions.

There's some progress though.

In journal there was

pam_systemd(xrdp-sesman:session): Failed to create session: No child processes

There's an open Xrdp issue: https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/1684
The workaround is to comment in /etc/pam.d/system-auth :

-account [success=1 default=ignore] pam_systemd_home.so

After I did this there's $XDG_SESSION_ID in the Xterm windows.

However, now I can't have two instances of xfce4-session at the same time. The one that's started later crashes. This issue is also reported, but not fixed
https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-session/-/issues/54 OK, let's not start two sessions for now.

There's a difference between starting startxfce4 and xfce4-session from Xterm. In the latter case $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is not set which sometimes causes

AT-SPI: Could not obtain desktop path or name

And finally, light-locker always segfaults when started from Xrdp.
