No HDMI output from SEUC0305 USB-C hub on Dell XPS15 9550

I recently bought a Selore SEUC0305 USB-C hub.

Here is the manufacturer's page: http://seloreglobal.com/article/62/3.html

The hub works out of the box on my Dell XPS15 9550, except for the two HDMI ports, which are not recognised.
I'd like to get them working, of course.

On this system, there is no mention in dmesg of any DP-x output, and no new outputs in xrandr.

The manufacturer suggests that the laptop should support USB-C DP alternate mode, which as far as I know is supported by the XPS15 9550.

These are the new entries in lsusb when the hub is connected:

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0bda:0411 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0bda:5411 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5411 Hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I am using Arch's vanilla 5.15.5 kernel.

The adapter's HDMI ports DO work with another Lenovo laptop I borrowed at work (running Manjaro and kernel 5.15; dmesg and xrandr do show new DP-x outputs for this laptop), but they also do not work on another Acer laptop also running Manjaro and kernel 5.13.

Any tips and advice as for how to debug this, or should I give up as it is probably hardware related?
