Mplayer Small Screen [solved]

Hi - having got the correct drivers working in Mplayer I'm now having trouble with the screen size - the mplayer screen is small and if I try to enlarge it I simply get a large black window with the same sized screen in the middle... Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Mplayer Small Screen [solved]

Try different vo modes. Some modes will only allow you to fullscreen if there is a single mplayer process so make sure there aren't other defunct mplayer's still in your process list.

mplayer -vo gl will works well, if avaiable. uses mplayer -vo help to know the video output modes you have.

Re: Mplayer Small Screen [solved]

mplayer -vo xv should be the default, but to make sure, try to use it explicitly. From your symptoms I figure that xvideo is not available on your X server (you can check that with the xvinfo command). This is a Xorg configuration problem that in most cases is caused by one of these reasons:

1) you use the vesa driver, which doesn't have xvideo (in this case you have to use -vo x11 -zoom, but this is slow)
2) you use the ati-fglrx driver, which has xvideo disabled by default (which is the most stupid default I have ever seen, but the ATI guys don't seem to care).

Re: Mplayer Small Screen [solved]

Thanks to everyone for all your help!

As you suspected Brain0 - I am using the vesa driver. The -vo x11 -zoom option does work but has quite bad delay and sound/video synch.

I'm using a thinkpad t22 and the video card is a

Mobile S3 Savage IX8.

Should I switch to the savage driver?

Re: Mplayer Small Screen [solved]

It's always better to not use vesa driver if you can avoid it. Vesa performance just stinks.
