Why was iscan removed?

The only way I can get my V550 scanner to be working is by installing the iscan, iscan-data and AUR's V550 packages. Before, I could just do: sudo pacman -S iscan iscan-data and AUR, but unfortunately iscan is removed now. Why has  the iscan package been removed and what replaces it?

What used to be the iscan package in community is out of date, and buggy.

I strongly suggest you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SANE/S … lems#Epson thoroughly .

If your device is an epson perfection V550 photo (educated guess) , that should work fine with the newer driver , just needs one aur package .

iscan maintainer here.
The package was removed basically for two reasons: not well compatible with gcc 10 and poor distribution from Epson.

For some models Epson distributes an iscan package different from another scanner model. Not all the scanners work with the same iscan version.

Check out the imagescan package if it works with your scanner

I removed iscan, iscan-data and installed imagescan. I did try imagescan before/read the arch wiki's URL posted above, but this time I setup the config:

[devices]

dev1.udi  = esci:usb:04b8:013b
dev1.name = v550 

But when I run utsushi the scanner is grayed out and after a few minutes of waiting I get this error message:

Zugriff auf v550
(esci:usb:04b8:013b)
LIBUSB_ERROR_TIMEOUT nicht möglich

If iscan was removed due to reasons Muflone mentioned, then I would also have iscan removed. Now I either try to find out if my V550 can work with imagescan, or just reinstall iscan again (especially if iscan is not deprecated and isn't going to stop working one day). If anyone has the same scanner working with imagescan/utsushi, feel free to let people know.

Edit: Nevermind, according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SANE/S … lems#Epson:
  "You can check here for all supported imagescan/utsushi devices [...]."
the v550 isn't supported.

iscan is on AUR now: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/iscan
