pacman slow

After the instalation of my new Arch64, the system looks fine, but the downloads from pacman are extremely slow.
I'm running a Core 2 Duo, with an intel based board, chipset 975bx and an 82573L ethernet controller (onboard). Using the browser, the speed of my downloads are ok , but pacman is not the same it used to be.

Is there something i'm forgetting?

Try a different server in /etc/pacman.d/current and also the extra  repo, as pacman will connect to the one at  the top of the list, try a server close to you
