[Solved] Can't mount .dd file

Hi. I've used testdisk for rescue data from an sdcard damaged. Now i've a .dd file of 120 gb, but i can't mount the file. I've use "sudo mount -o loop file.dd /mnt" and the output is: "mount: /mnt: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error".

Any ideas? Please, help me. Thanks.

My hunch is that it the file contains partitions.

Try  sudo losetup -P /dev/loop0 file.dd
Then, look at ls -l /dev/loop* 
for things like loop0p1 or loop0p2
If they exist, mount those on /mnt

No. The only loop* files in /dev are: /dev/loop0 and /dev/loop-control.

BTW, I tried the command you gave on a file that I have that I know had two partitions.  It gave the error you reported.
I then tried the command I provided, got the *p0 and *p1 loop files, mounted the later, and it worked.  If it does not work for you, I fear that points to your image.

Looks like there's nothing there but I've never used testdisk so I'm groping around in the dark here.

How about

wipefs image.dd
file image.dd

Somebody more familiar with testdisk may be able to offer better advice.

Between that, and HoaS's check, I would say that your file does not have a partition table.  So, it has to be a single volume.   
I don't have any files like that I can test with.   

If the volume did not begin at the beginning of the drive (say to leave room for a boot block), you may need to mount it using an offset.   This article provides a reasonable explanation:

I've used fdisk -l on .dd file. This is the output:

Disk /home/andrea/image.dd: 119,08 GiB, 127863300096 bytes, 249733008 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

See the testdisk link, but your dd might have gone wrong…

Take a GUI hexeditor (like 010Editor) that can handle large files (aur/hexeditor can not) and strive roughly over the whole image (especially the tail/end part). If its all zero you don't need to test any tool.

You can also just compress the file (gz will do) - if it's all zero, the compressed file will only be a few kB.
(That's easier and more reliable than trying to find 1GB of data in an 120GB image)

Yes, the end part of .dd file opened with 010editor are all zero.

I guess if you scroll roughly over the whole file everything is empty so the dd capture wasn't successful.

Nope. The start and the end of the file is empty. The center no.

I also tried to use ddrescue. It create a .img file of the same size of the .dd file created with testdisk, and the output when mount the .img file is the same.

What were the actual commands you used to create the image?

With testdisk: sudo testdisk -> Create -> Select the sdcard -> EFI GPT -> Analyse -> Quick search -> Come back when it finished -> Advanced -> Select MS DATA partition (the bigger of two partition) -> Image creation -> C.

With ddrescue: sudo ddrescue -v /dev/mmcblk0p1 /home/andrea/mmc.img /home/andrea/mmc.log
