ARCH install - pacman -Syu fails due to exitsing python file conflict

Before I post this question I need to comment...

I've been in this industry for some years now. I have never experienced the RUDE mannerisms towards like minded individuals. EVERYONE here is here to learn, fix, modify and expand the knowledge the have to become better. Please, with this in mind assist without impatience. NO QUESTIONS ARE DUMB only a reflection of a desire to learn something you/ve mastered. Some may not be as savvy as you. they still want to know. Linux is new to some of us. We need your patience to become useful to the community here.

Now I have an issue I would like some instruction about. I installed Arch on a Sony Vaio. I've setup a vbox with a hack lab in it. However, at some point my Pacman -Syu found an error in versions with PLUMBER and a file conflict with a python file. Here's the errors. Looking for guidance to resolve. A simple point in a direction maybe.

The plumber package in community was recently added, given the huge difference in version number it may not be the same software.

pacman -Qi plumber

The Url field will show upstream for the package, compare it with the url on https://archlinux.org/packages/communit … 4/plumber/ .

The 2 python packages make me wonder if they may have been installed by pip, anaconda or similar .

Do you know where those files came from? That message means that Pacman found a file exists where it needs to put one, and has no idea how it got there; nor is it willing to overwrite it.
Have you ever installed something system wide using a tool like pip ?

As to our community standards, you are correct, there are no dumb questions. We do, however, expect that users do their homework before asking on the forums. Failure to do so is a waste of our time, and is an indication the person has no interest in learning and merely wants their hand held. I would be interested in an example where someone who was doing their research, asked their question in a coherent manner, provided requested information, and worked with those trying to help were treated rudely. Let's include that no one responded to the rudeness with corrective action. Also, let's exclude any cases where the person was using a different distribution and tried to obfuscate that fact.

That's why he linked you not only to the page, but to the specific section that covers precisely the error you are facing. It's a pretty concise section of only ~12 sentences and a couple commands you would be expected to execute. When someone takes the time to give you a link to such a specific bit of information, it would be wise* to give some indication that you took the time to read it and have at least attempted to follow the guidance provided in it.

*note: "wise" can be substituted here with courteous, respectful, or several other good or noble adjectives implying the opposite of rude. Of course one can then further infer what it would mean if one fails to give any indication of having read or attempted to follow said guidance.

So, background on the install. Arch installed then I added BLACKARCH. Then I attempted to install an open-vmware that used PKBUILD. There were several mkpkg errors. I believe this corrupted the Python somehow with the newer version.... So, this is an Investigation to find out what my IGNORANCE messed up.

Oh, I was able to install VitualBox and like it a ton...

Just this self-created pandora's box needs to be understood...

RESOLVED - renamed a python script file 'pygrun to pygrunbk'
So, removing the non-community PLUMBER and renaming the Python Script file seemed to allow all other system updates and downgrades to happen...

Community PLUMBER and the proper version of Python are now not derailing the update process any further.

This is a rabbit whole that has taught me a ton. Still learning.... I am down to one error in a GUI for pacman. Using GNOME as my environment on ARCH there is an Add/Remove Application in the menus under System. I launch this to look at the available apps to install... never populates. I run the Refresh Databases and it ends in " invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature) " However, in Terminal the sudo pacman -Syu completes fine...

I find three results in my search for a solution but none are using this function of add/remove in GNOME's environment. Refreshing Gnome helped it resolve one of the (PGP) errors. One down One to go..... LOL then on to the next self-inficted issue....

However, in this case I'm guessing you're just missing the gnome-software-packagekit-plugin package which will have been listed as an optional dependency when you first installed gnome-software. This is why you should read and understand the output that pacman is giving you every time you use it.

Perhaps this was too subtle. I was implying that if you fail to make an attempt to read the information that is provided to you that it'd be you who was being rude. You've now been courteously pointed to relevant parts of our community standards several times, and yet you fail to show any sign that you intend to follow our standards. Most recently, you've been pointed to how to mark your thread as solved.
