System Administration - MSD bug is it fixable

Hi,

Trilby? If you are available I'd really like a word..

It's regarding that CPU bug (MSD some words SMT on etc)

If you have any helpful pointers, I'd be super appreciative. I've looked online at intel, here on countless wiki pages, tried some alternative sources.. it's PERMANENTLY there..

And also, is it even fixable? Cause I've thoroughly investigated all avenues.. seems for some older laptops, it's just the way the cookie crumbled..

If you mean the CPU vulnerabilities, you can install and set up your  microcodes if you're paranoid you can set the

mitigations=auto,nosmt

kernel parameter to disable SMT as well which will generally lead to a perf hit, at comparatively little gain to your home desktop/laptop use.

Well, I wouldn't say paranoid haha.. but, going over my journalctl -b..

It seems rather "not good".. I could be wrong?

So V1del,

I've done the time, looking over Microcode and how-to..

I'm seriously stuck, I notice on my "inxi -Cay" my last update was indeed the 2019-11-12..

I have patiently and thoroughly gone lengths to study all the (well as much as I felt were an applicable option) to update the microcode version...

Keeps ending in a kernel panic.. am I missing something minor or overlooking a crucial step? It's really becoming the base of my existence.. and I don't plan to just let it go haha

Please post exact commands and configuration files rather than vague descriptions. Have you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Microcode?

And please edit posts rather than multi-posting if nobody else has replied.
