I'm trying to get my display to work over a thunderbolt hub.
I have a laptop with a thunderbolt 3 to Displayport adapter to a screen (so laptop -> adapter -> screen). Connecting these directly works well for 2160p@60Hz.
Now, I'm trying to do exactly the same, but with a thunderbolt 4 hub in between (so laptop -> hub -> adapter -> screen). This unfortunately does not work, while other items such as a USB type-C microphone, USB type-A webcam, mouse and keyboard do work through the hub.
I already turned off any thunderbolt security in the bios. GNOME tells me the dock is authorized and connected.
When I connect the adapter directly, lsusb lists it adapter while lspci lists a thunderbolt 3 bridge. When I connect the adapter via the hub, the adapter doesn't show up via lsusb or lspci (the element hub itself shows up as expected).
Any suggestions on how I could diagnose this?

Also having this issue... Except it is a thunderbolt 4 (usb-c) -> displayport adapter that the manufacturer (Cable Matters) claims has linux support. Nothing in dmesg. Works on mac/windows.
