No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

I am trying to fix my screen tearing issue on Plasma with 2 screens (laptop screen 60Hz and external screen 144Hz).
According to the wiki I should set "ForceCompositionPipeline=On" for each display.
But for some reason I can't find any target with nvidia-settings.

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

Please edit your post and use "code" tags, not "quote" tags.

ERROR: Error resolving target specification '' (No targets match target specification), specified in query
       'CurrentMetaMode'.

Also post your xorg log - it doesn't seem you're running on the nvidia driver.

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

This is an optimus system and you're running on the intel chip.
No output is connected to the nvidia chip either.

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

That can't be because on the Thinkpad X1 Extreme both the HDMI and USB C ports are connected to the nvidia chip.
So how could that even be possible?

My bad, you later on connected

You're still running on the intel chip so next to the previous link, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … ronization might be relevant but I'm not sure whether prime sync applies to reverse prime.

Also please notice that you'll typically be able to sync to only one output.

Having it enabled only for my 144Hz screen would be enough.

I already checked for prime synchronization and according to xandr it is enabled on both display :S
But it seems like the problem might be here.

So I ran:

xrandr --output DP-1-0 --set "PRIME Synchronization" 1

Then my 144 Hz turned black and then turned back on.
How ever, tearing is still present.
According to this output it is also still not enabled:

xrandr --prop

A pre-requisite for PRIME sync with the NVidia driver is to enable modesetting. I believe I had this enabled. Any way to make sure?

Sanity check because of "reverse prime" and 144Hz is pretty fast to see a tear line at all.
Is this actually "tearing" (the output is split into two parts w/ a horizontal line) or do you get other artifacts, segments flickering, …?

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

Hmm maybe this describe it best:

When moving dragging/moving a windows around on my desktop, then the movement of the window will look choppy and not 100% smooth.
It becomes even more choppy when I disable the laptop screen (no idea why).

Currently when only external display is enabled, you will only get 1 FPS. See [5] for more details.

How is the behavior when you suspend the compositor (Shift+Alt+F12)?
Ftr: that description doesn't fit tearing at all.

Oh okay sorry. Thought that is what tearing means tongue
I already have the compositor disabled. So that didn't help :S

Basically when moving a window (e.g. browser) I can't read the text in it because of the many littler "jumps" instead of a fluid and smooth movement.

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

In that case here's a rather surprising suggestion: Try to *disable* TearFree and vblank_sync,
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_graphics#Tearing

Better?

Re: No targets match: nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode

Sorry for not answering for so long. I will come back to this during this weekend.

I believe the last time I added "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf" I wasn't able to boot and GUI anymore.
So I wanted to make sure that I have time when I play around with this again.
