Random logouts from X due to Emacs (?)

I am running Arch with Stumpwm. Recently, I have been experiencing random logouts from my xsessions. This happens both when Stump and EXWM are used as window managers. The system just logs out without any message and returns to the display manager login prompt.

My .xsession-errors file contains the following, which seems to suggest that the responsibility lies with Emacs (27.2):

(process:20234): GLib-CRITICAL **: 12:06:35.440: g_string_insert_len: assertion 'len == 0 || val != NULL' failed
[1;32madd_icon: 20971524 (), pid 20192, visual 0x5616e38c8b30, colormap 20971525, depth 32, width 22, height 22[0m
Connection lost to X server ':0.0'
When compiled with GTK, Emacs cannot recover from X disconnects.
This is a GTK bug: [url]https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/221[/url]
For details, see etc/PROBLEMS.

Re: Random logouts from X due to Emacs (?)

Please wrap that in code tags, https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

The emacs error says that emacs crashed because the X11 server crashed (well, "disappeared") - it's not the cause of "random logouts from my xsessions"
Check you xorg log (if you auo-restart X11, the .old one) - there's likely a backtrace at its tail. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
Also check the system journal, this might also just because the session keeping process crashed (and eg. xinit terminates and terminates the X11 server)

Thanks for the advice. I had to wait a bit for the error to occur again so I could extract the backtrace.

The Xorg log shows the following:

I'm now certain that the random logouts only happen when I use EXWM, which is why I suspected Emacs itself was causing them.

This happens both when Stump and EXWM are used as window managers.

I'm now going to show you a mgic trick: you have an nvidia GPU and the driver version 495.46
"TadAAA"
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/73031

Do you also run a compositor (picom)?

Re: Random logouts from X due to Emacs (?)

Thanks for your reply. If I understand correctly, then according to lspci I'm using an Intel GPU:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
	DeviceName: Onboard IGD
	Subsystem: Dell Device 05a4
	Kernel driver in use: i915
	Kernel modules: i915

Yes I can see that my comments about the window managers were confusing. I was generally using EXWM, where the problem I'm describing occurs very frequently (basically every time I use it). It seemed to occur once in stump, but it's not clear whether it was caused by the same thing.

Also I don't run any compositors.
