[SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

So i recently came back to arch after hearing about pipewire fixing all the audio gripes I had with linux, and it's been great since. However, a new problem was waiting for me when I returned; This insanely persistent (i think it has something to do with rendering) screen bug. This bug appears when any kind of image or anything pops up on the screen (viewing images in feh or any kind of image viewer, skipping playback forward in mpv, closing a window or opening the applications menu in xfce,or just changing workspaces/tags in i3 or dwm. I have tried every god damn setting in the 20-intel.conf, and I've even tried modesetting. This is definitely a recent thing, because this bug wasn't present on the same hardware only a year and some change ago.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

Do you have xf86-video-intel installed?
Since this may be the audio signal on hdmi/dp - if you don't play audio over the monitor, you could try to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … acklisting the  snd_hda_codec_hdmi module (try the kernel commandline for a quick, transient test and check "lsmod" to make sure it has worked)

Also wallpaper, please smile

It's not audio issues I'm having it's the line bug that pops up when doing any of the aforementioned things. I apologize for awkwardly prefacing my original post. This bug seems to carry whatever was on screen before the transition to the next frame with it in that thin rectangular line in the OP pic.
Also the pape is boris - flood.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

It's not audio issues I'm having

I did understand that.
There's an audio signal in HDMI and displayport and that can cause a visual artifact, so the idea was to not use those outputs for audio signals at all.

I typed the command i got from the wiki into the terminal, and got no output, which  assume is good, and I also added the blacklist to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.
I rebooted, went into feh to try to reproduce the issue and it still happens.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

There's no command to be entered into a terminal, "module_blacklist=snd_hda_codec_hdmi" is to be appended to the kernel commandline in your bootloader (eg. grub)
The /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf syntax is differen and only applies on reboots and only if the module isn't in the initramfs (which is why I asked you to use the kernel commandline for at least testing purposes)

In any event, the module is still loaded, so you can't expect any changes to the problem atm.

Do you have xf86-video-intel installed?

Ok, this time i added the line and booted in, lsmod to see if it went through (it did ofc), and the problem still persists. And no I just uninstalled xf86-video-intel the other day after giving up on trying the different options. I'm open to reinstalling it, and trying anything.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

Does it remain wen you disable te xfwm4 compositor?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xfwm#Composite_manager

Try to disable DRI3, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … RI3_issues
(You can export the variable in some /etc/profile* to hit everything for sure)

Yep, I tried this as well. I'm currently on dwm, not that it matters with this bug. The bug appears with or without any compositing from xfwm4, or picom. I tried dri 2 and it made 0 difference. I'ved tried it in wayland too, and whatever is used there is the exact same as dri 3. Like I said in the OP I've tried every setting combo in the 20-intel.conf. I've even got an actual shot of it happening after booting back in, as well as my xorg log. Please tell me if there is anything else I can post to be more helpful.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

I'ved tried it in wayland too, and whatever is used there is the exact same as dri 3.

Means we don't have to look at the X configuration.
Did you try to disable FBC and PSR?

The line doesn't seem to be in the same spot (?), so it's probably not the panel.
mpv/mplayer can output to a framebuffer console, can you reproduce it there as well?

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

I'm not sure which did it, but a combination of

Section "Device"
  Identifier "Intel Graphics"
  Driver "intel"
  Option "DRI" "2"
  EndSection

as well as disabling fbc and psr seems to have solved the issue. I spent 30 or so minutes trying to reproduce it with mpv like you said, and with feh. I don't want to speak too soon, but it seems to be fixed. Thanks a lot for the help man.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphical line bug on T450s

Because of the wayland situation it's likely either fbc or psr and since those have powersaving implications (and I'm curious) you probably want to figure which is the important one.

If the line stays away, please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
