Mythtv Problems

Well i'm having all sort of problems with Mythtv... i start the backend server and when i launch mythtv-setup as root it says:

Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)

QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
2006-10-10 15:38:04.938 DB Error (KickDatabase):
Query was:
SELECT NULL;
No error type from QSqlError? Strange...

As normal user it runs... and also mythbackend starts but it says:

Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed

But when I start mythbackend as normal user it starts good and everything but when i try to watch tv with mythfrontend as normal user it says (in the backend server log):

Go to Utilities > Setup > TV Settings > Recording Profiles within mythfrontend and play with the settings. You "should" see your tuner card there, select it and change the settings. A good one to start with is LiveTV as you can change the settings then escape and test watching tv.  If you don't see your tuner card then you know you'll have to go back and work on mythtv-setup.

Re: Mythtv Problems

Have you successfully tested your tuner card outside of mythtv? If not, that would be step one.

If you have, then I'd suggest starting mythbackend in one terminal and mythfrontend in another terminal as a normal user in that order. Do both start successfully? Does the mythfrontend kick you out to a screen where "english" is highlighted in a list of languages? From your first post I think they will both start without complaint. Which leads us back to the section I snipped out above. If one or both don't start please post the error messages returned.

Re: Mythtv Problems

As a normal user, can you login to mysql and use the mythconverg database (you will be asked for your password)?

 mysql -umythtv -p  mythconverg

Re: Mythtv Problems

Okay, you should concentrate on getting the card to work first.

A more basic test of the tuner card is usually a good idea at first too.

What kind of card is it?

Re: Mythtv Problems

I'm curious as to the output (if any) when you do the following:

cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg

You can let it run for a while then ctrl+c to stop it. I'm wondering if you just get a blank screen, static or something else?

I don't have one of these cards so I can't tell you exactly what needs to be done. By the way have you seen Gentoo's how to?

I don't see anything wrong with the output of dmesg in the other post.

Re: Mythtv Problems

tecta,

That's not the output I was hoping for.

Have you tried to post your question at MythTVtalk/forum?
