[SOLVED-] Firefox not loading websites, crashing --likely DNS error--

Firefox just today had one crash happen, and suddenly after another crash, no sites will load. I've tried common stuff like cache clearing and running an -Syu, but Firefox still refuses to even appear to even start loading a page and crashes after 5 minutes of attempting.

Where would I be looking to to troubleshoot page loading errors when no apparent changes took place to make this happen?

Edit: It... just stopped happening... Maybe it was the DNS settings over Cloudflare, Firefox's default?

I consider it "solved," but if anyone wishes to add information on what to do if this happens again, I would appreciate it.

Final [hopefully] edit: Likely a DNS issue with Cloudflare, a default setting of Firefox. Locate your network settings in General and choose a different DNS provider.

This seems to be widespread, and platform/OS independent.

Someone or something at Firefox has really eff'd up here.

Re: [SOLVED-] Firefox not loading websites, crashing --likely DNS error--

Hi,
I'm currently experiencing the same issue.
I have started firefox in safe-mode but still it does not load any page.

I can't see a debug option in Firefox. Tried '--g-fatal-warnings' but does not show anything.

I'll try to find what's going on.

In the meantime, if anyone has an answer or suggestion...

Ok, this being widespread makes me think it was a Cloudflare DNS outage thing. I was only able to post because Librewolf is configured differently.

We'll see in time.

This might have just been cloudflare?

Well, seeing this was UTC, this was much earlier...

I can confirm that this temp fix seems to be working for me:

Set network.http.http3.enabled to false in about:config, then restart

Hi,
Yes, cloudflare is the problem.

Another workaround is enabling DNS over HTTPS in settings->network. Then choose NextDNS.

Thanks to all. Will revert settings afetr Clouflare finally resolves the issue.

Have a great day and year ;-)

Re: [SOLVED-] Firefox not loading websites, crashing --likely DNS error--

It's still crashes after minutes of active CPU while it's trying to load a web-page
The fix from henno's post helps me

I can confirm that the solution by henno works. It's unlikely to be a CloudFlare issue, as I have TRR disabled (network.trr.mode = 5) and use Quad9 for DNS.

Hi,

My collegue Franc found the issue. It's (maybe) not Cloudflare a @rochus says.
The problem is that Firefox by default gets info on your install. Go to settings, privacy and security, and uncheck all boxes about "allow firefox ..."

No need to change anything else.

Best

This also works for me, and is a far better solution.
