Hi, before updating to KDE 3.5.3 (I think), I used to have a menu entry saying "New login", so I could switch users with Ctrl+Alt+F7/8 and so on. I hoped updating to KDE 3.5.4 would help, but no, now I use 3.5.5, and the menu entry is still gone.
Also, at the same time, when I press "Log Out", the reboot/shut down options disappeared.
I think it's a permission issue, but have googled around and can't find a solution.
Anyone?

You need to start your X11/KDE session through KDM for those functions. That's been the case forever so you must have changed something in your config. Maybe you could simply put 'kdm' as the last thing into /etc/rc.conf, DAEMONS=(....kdm).

I do start kde through KDM, and have always done that.
It's probably something with kdmrc or one of the files in kdm config. directory.

In the latest KDE you can use the "Switch User" button which is found in the KDE statart button third option from the bottom.

That's the entry thats gone from my menu.
I used to have it, but now it's gone.
I've rechecked my kdmrc once more, and tried installing a new one to no avail.

The usual KDE troubleshooting advice goes like this:
Back up your ~/.kde directory and try again with a maiden config.

You can also try running 'kbuildsycoca' from the command line and see if you get your menu item back. WARNING--> I've never done this. It may completely rebuild the menus.
