For a long while now, I have been using media shortcuts `XF86MonBrightnessUp` and `XF86MonBrightnessDown`, but those two have always proven to be "laggy" while doing so, in that they would always change the backlight while holding in sudden and discrete steps, rather than a smooth fade one would expect.
Once I looked into it, I found out that remapping backlight controls to some other keys (in my case, ctrl + "+" and ctrl + "-") fixed the issue, leading me to believe that the issue lies in the keyboard controller/drivers, which, upon further inspection using `xev` command, has proven to be the case; rather than providing a fast spam as seen with every other key when it is pressed and held, the media brightness controls repeat in roughly half a second increments. I have scoured the internet for anything like this, though I couldn't find anything that lists this issue as is my case (most forums listed the issue as being inconsistent, or causing entire system halts, but such is not the case here, because it appears to bear no performance impact on my machine, and the keys provide a consistent stagger), which is why I have finally decided to open this forum post.
I am using a Thinkpad T430, with a modded T420 keyboard (though the issue was there even while I had its original keyboard), with the latest kernel and driver versions (5.16.3-arch1-1, xf86-input-libinput 1.2.1-1)
