xfce4-mixer problems

Ever since I installed archlinux on this machine I've never gotten xfce4-mixer to work properly.  I installed it and originally when I opened it up it was totally blank and I could see no settings whatsoever.  The Gnome mixer worked perfectly and alsa saw both of my cards.  After that happened for some reason whenever I tried to open the settings on the xfce4-mixer it would change my theme back to the default Archlinux theme and then not open, which was really strange.
Anyway alsa would always default to my onboard soundcard and I wanted to use my PCI one, so I blacklisted the onboard card in my rc.conf.  Now alsa works fine but xfce4-mixer won't even open at all.  It was giving me a Segmentation Fault whenever I try to run it from a terminal.  Anyway I uninstalled that then and got the ABS of it and changed it to configure with --enable-debug, and then I re-installed it. Now when I run xfce4-mixer I get this:

[eric@arch ~]$ xfce4-mixer
alsa: Unable to find simple control 'Master',0
Segmentation fault

The same thing happens as root.  I have no idea what is going on.
